    Form- Triptych
    Function- Personal devotion
Content- Joseph is in the right panel, in his carpentry shop
    Context- Located in Tournai
Tradition-Like many other Christian artworks, this painting is full of symbols.
Interpretation-The mousetrap in Joseph' s shop is meant to represent the capturing of the Devil.
Artistic intent- The painting looks like it is set in 1500, which is meant to make the figures of Mary and Gabriel closer to the people of the time period.
Audience response- The gatekeeper and wife were added later when the patron was married.
