    Function-Decoration in a wealthy merchant's home
    Content-Alpine landscape
    Context-Made in 1565 CE
    tradition- High horizon line, Which is a Northern European tradition
    Interpretation- The landscape also shows the joys and other activities of winter, not just the labors.
    Artistic intent- Meant, mostly, to show the labors of winter.
    Audience response- Was commissioned along with 6 other paintings by Nicolaes Jonghelinck

    Content: small figures on frozen lakes
    Context: Painted by Pieter Bruegel the elder
    Tradition: This is a secular painting
    Interpretation: the hunters have had little success in the winter hunt as seen by how the dogs hang their heads
    Artistic Intent: To show the life and mannerisms of peasants
    Audience Response: Only 5 of the 6 paintings exist today, some wonder why there are only 6 and not 12
