    Form- Fresco
Function- The commission of the ceiling was part of the redesign in 1473
Content- There are three hundred figures on the ceiling
    Context-Located in Vatican city
Change- The many figures are mainly for artistic expression and not to enhance the narrative
Interpretation- The acorns on the ceiling are the symbol of pope Julius II
Artistic intent- Meant to be a powerful narrative.
Audience response- New popes are elected here.

    Form:mosaic
Function: to show scenes from Genesis
Content: one of five sibyls on the ceiling
    Context: painted by Michelangelo
    Tradition: narrative expression
Interpretation: the Delphi sibyl holds the scroll containing her prophecy
Artistic Intent: Michelangelo chose a complicated arrangement of figures for the ceiling
Audience Response: the chapel has recently undergone a controversial cleaning in which soot and grime from years of the chapel's use were cleaned off to try to bring back the rich colors of Michelangelo's vision
