    Function-Was placed in a monastery hospital.
    Content- Christ's Crucifixion is in the center with a black background.
    Context- Located in Germany
    Tradition- During this time, wooden altars were popular in Germany
    Interpretation- A lamb holding a cross is a symbol of Christ, and one can be seen on the first view of the altar.
    Artistic intent- This painting was meant to parallel the effects that ergotism had on those in the monastery hospital.
    Audience response- Was commissioned by Guy Guers, a leader of the Monastery this is located in.
