    Form-Brick and Ceramic
    Function- was a christian church
    Content- The exterior is plain with little decoration.
    Context- Located in Istanbul, Turkey
    Change- Was at one point converted to a Mosque, so minarets were added to the structure.
    Interpretation- The large central dome is supposed to represent a halo.
    Artistic intent- The cornice is meant to unify the space.
    Audience Response- Converted into a museum in the early 20th century.

    Function: Used for Muslims to worship
    Content: Altar is at the end of the nave
    Context: Patrons were Emperor Justinian and Empress Theodora
    Tradition/Change: Marble columns were appropriated from Rome, Ephesus and other Greek sites
    Interpretation: Hagia Sophia means "holy wisdom"
    Artistic Intent: The mihrab is off center because when converted to a mosque, the architects had to orient it towards Mecca
