    Content- Domed wooden octagon
    Context- The patron is Abd al-Malik
    Tradition- The columns are taken from Roman monuments.
    Interpretation- Believed to be the place where Abraham nearly sacrificed Isaac.
    Artistic intent- Meant to rival the Christian church of the holy SephLecur in Jerusalem.
    Audience response- Is a site of pilgrimage for the faithful.

    Interpretation: It came to be identified with the place where Muhammad began his miraculous journey to Heaven
    Artistic Intent: It marked the coming of a new religion(Islam) to the city that was sacred to both Jews and Christians
    Audience Response: Is a site sacred to three religions: Islam, Judaism and Christianity

    Artistic Intent- meant to rival a christian church.
    Audience Response- believed that it commemorates the night journey of muhammad.
