    Form- white marble
Function- A dedication to the patron Goddess, of Athens, Athena.
Content- Doric temple has Ionic elements such as capitals and Friezes.
Context- Was built under the leadership of Pericles after the persians sacked Athens in 480 BCE.
Artistic Intent- The interior of the temple, was built to house a massive statue of Athena, which no longer exists.
Audience response- The Greek allies were furious with the construction of this temple because Pericles used the excess funds from the Persian war treasury.

  2. Form: The statue of Athena that would have been housed within the temple was made of gold and ivory over a wooden core.
Function: Served a practical purpose as the city treasury.
Content: unusually light interior had two windows in the cella
Context: Greek predilection for algebra and geometry omnipresent in the design of the building.
Tradition/ Change: Artists began to sign their names to works of art for the first time.
Artistic Intent: To be seen as the focal point of the city and be a symbol of ritual power and political power
