    Form:gold leaf
Function: to be placed in a medieval monastery
Content:Christ child looks away, perhaps anticipating his crucifixion Context: shows both Greek and Byzantine painting characteristics
Tradition: is very flat, and doesn't attempt to create depth, a trait typical of Byzantine art
Interpretation:Because the three groups have very different styles, it has been thought that they were painted by different artists
Artistic Intent: Meant for private prayer
Audience Response:As art become more of a part of daily life, icons and private devotional items became more popular
