  1. Mckenna
    Form- Made of marble
Function- Was made as an altar dedicated to Zeus and Athena.
Content- The frame of the monument is supported by ionic columns.
Context- Found in Pergamon, asia minor (Present day Bergama, Turkey).
Interpretation- There have been parallels made between this monument and King Attalos I’s victories over the Gauls, Alexander the Great’s defeat of the Persians, and the gods’ defeat of the giants.
Change- Unlike earlier versions of art, which portrayed calm figures, the Hellenistic figures on this altar were made to excite and stir strong feelings.

Content: A battle of the Greek gods vs. the Giants to determine the controller of the universe
Context: Made a conscious effort to be in dialogue with the Panathenaic Frieze on the Parthenon
Artistic Intent: To represent Greek prowess and might
Audience response: Meant to elicit dramatic and emotional reaction to the scene.
